The how-to on Emma Roberts's subtle blue eye makeup

Want to get a little wild with your eye makeup this weekend, but you aren’t quite ready to break out the four-color cerulean gel palette?

You’re not alone. So we recommend starting slow with a pretty look like Emma Roberts’s, worn an Intermix bash last night.

With her body-hugging blue mini in mind, makeup artist Nick Barose highlighted her eyes with a coordinating hue (see a full look here) and kept the rest of her look fresh and spring-y, first prepping her with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Glow to keep skin dewy.

“We did a modern take on ’60s mod eyes with a blue eyeliner pencil,” he tells us (his favorite at the moment: Revlon’s Photoready Kajal eyeliner in “Blue Nile,” not yet on the market — makeup artists get products before the rest of us!).

Once you’ve found an acceptable peacock blue substitute (this Givenchy shade is pretty close), Barose says to “line upper and lower lash line with the blue liner, then smudge it a bit with Q-tips. Then line the inner rims of the eyes with a white or brightening eye pencil.”

Two coats of mascara (he used Sisley Paris “So Intense,” but feel free to use one that isn’t $66) left “a bit chunky” to play up the Twiggy effect, plus a “flesh tone lip” (Emma’s in “Bare” by Jouer), plus a little cream blush, is all you need to complete this look.

Tell us: Would you give this take on blue eye makeup a try?
