If you’re a fan of musicals, you’re probably really excited to see Into the Woods. And if you’re not a fan of musicals, you’re probably still excited because the film has a mega-star-studded cast. And one of those stars is bringing her own fairytale to life in a new shoot for Violet Grey’s online magazine,

Emily Blunt took on the role of Creative Director, selecting the scene and overall vibe of the photoshoot, captured at the Carlyle Hotel in N.Y.C. Her goal? To embody three characters from the hotly-anticipated film — Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Cinderella. But imagine these characters running around an urban jungle in couture and spectacular makeup.

“These weren’t portraits of one-dimensional fairytale characters,” Blunt, who dons a blonde wig, powder-blue eyeshadow and a black gown to portray Cinderella, shares. “They are modern women who are powerful and complicated.”

As for being the creative force behind the shoot, Blunt says she felt very comfortable in the role. “It was hugely appealing to me to have that much input. Usually, as an actress, you show up and they say this is what the look is and this is the character that we want you to be. And that’s always fun but the fact that I got to have a say in the story was really exciting.”

She also wanted to capture the themes behind the upcoming movie. “The message [of the film, Into the Woods] is very much be careful of what you wish for, and it also begs the question, what happens after happily ever after? I just wanted to play with those ideas a bit more.”
