Elle Fanning Just Revealed Her Biggest Beauty Regret
The star opens up about the one look that she finds questionable
Last year, Elle Fanning threw beauty junkies everywhere into a frenzy with her adoption of the glitter tears trend. The star stepped out sporting flecks of silver and gold glitter under her bottom lash lines — and a lot of it. The red carpet-ready look was so mesmerizing that we couldn’t help but try it, as did many other stars, including Suki Waterhouse and Hailey Baldwin. But now, the new face of L’Oréal Paris is revealing to PEOPLE that it might not have been her best beauty moment ever.
When asked about her most major style disaster, Fanning reveals that it does in fact involve her dramatic eye shadow looks.
“I did experiment with a lot of colors on my eyes and things, which I absolutely love, I just think maybe I’ve gone a little overboard with that sometimes,” the star tells PEOPLE of her extravagant makeup moves in the video above.
But that’s not to say the look is impossible to pull of. Fanning adds that it just has to be executed perfectly in order to work.
“So sometimes you’re like ‘whoa!’ but you have to make sure that you do the color correctly,” she shares. “Like it totally can be done, but sometimes if you don’t put enough mascara on or you don’t darken around the eyes enough, your eyes kind of go away and they become small.”

Meanwhile, when she’s not experimenting with bold looks on the carpet, the star tells People that she keeps her beauty routine simple.
“For me, I always have to keep a good lip balm or mascara in my purse. Mascara is very important to me. I feel like my eyelashes can be a little rebellious,” Fanning said. “They kind of stick straight out and go kind of wonky, so I have to curl them, put mascara on and get them under control to make my eyes open up.”
