Speaking to People for our 5 Questions video series, Barrymore opened up about why sharing bare-faced photos with her fans is important to her. “Makeup-free selfies are empowering because that’s what you really look like — and I have no interest in sort of pretending I look something else than what I am,” says Barrymore, who can often be seen sans foundation on Instagram. “I love wearing makeup, but I also love not wearing makeup.” Bryan Bedder/Getty But makeup-free selfies aren’t the only thing you’ll see on her feed. From sweet moments with her daughters Olive, 5, and Frankie, 3, to sneak peeks of her beauty prep for her show Santa Clarita Diet, the 43-year-old doesn’t hold back when it comes to revealing slices of her life, even if she sometimes wishes she could live life out of the public eye. “The best and worst thing about social media is you can show and share with the world what you’re passionate about, and the worst thing is, I wish I could just be a private person,” admits the actress, who recently received some harsh criticism from internet trolls after posting a video of herself promoting some beach-bag must-haves. The star responded by treating herself to some TLC — and opening up about the experience. “Haters gonna hate. Yesterday I saw comments on my Instagram feed about my post that were mean, cruel, and ugly. It hurt me,” she wrote in the caption. “And you know what women do when they get hurt???? They pick themselves up! Go get a haircut. Put on some lipstick and chant “if you don’t have something nice to say… don’t say anything at all” thank you @markishkreli @yumi_mori for picking a girl up and dusting her off. And more than anything, helping me feel pretty. Pretty is on the inside. But a little love on the outside never hurts. #thisfeedisforlovers.” But Barrymore reveals that it’s her passion for sharing her projects that keeps her coming back to social media platforms, including her latest Flower Beauty news: After several years exclusively in Walmart, the brand is expanding to Ulta Beauty. “It’s a whole new era for us, and I can’t wait for you to get your hands on all the makeup and exclusives,” says Barrymore, who plans on launching several new skus with the store, including the gold-flecked lipcolor she wore during her visit in the video above! “We have a metallic matte lip in all these beautiful, cool, wearable shades. I’m actually wearing Crimson Venom. And also new Wanderlust Palettes inspired by my travels. Each palette represents a city, has three different formulas in it, and is very purse-friendly. I’m actually wearing Austin.” Between parenting, acting and running a beauty company, “me-time” isn’t an oft-used word in Barrymore’s vocabulary. But when she does have an hour to herself, she’s all about a yoga class — or tuning into satirical news. Her go-tos: Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
