Did Sean Penn Like Charlize Theron's Mad Max Buzz Cut? 'It's Not Like We Spend Our Evenings Talking About My Buzz, But I Think So!'
Charlize Theron bravely buzzed off her hair for Mad Max: Fury Road, but she got the stamp of approval from two of the more important men in her life: The director of the film and “the love of her life,” Sean Penn.

“I think he likes it,” she told reporters at the film’s Hollywood premiere. “It’s not like we spend our entire evenings talking about my buzz, but I think he likes it.”
Theron shaved her head herself in 2012 when filming the post-apocalyptic film, and at the time she said she felt “great” about it. “I had just finished two press tours and my hair was destroyed from heat damage, so I was glad to get rid of it,” she said at the time. “I was also a new mom and just loved the idea of not having to style my hair every morning. The timing was perfect.”
And reflecting on it three years later (with a sexy, grown-out bob by now), Theron doesn’t regret a thing. “I came up with it, so I’m going to have to say I’m okay with it,” she said, laughing. I can’t even imagine doing the film any other way. I could never see this character with a ponytail, and that’s always where we got kind of left off. I was, like, so over the ponytail in these movies.”
Could you ever buzz your hair for a role?
