No hard feelings here! and one-time girlfriend make an impressive duo on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where Portman received the achievement actress award for Black Swan. Gyllenhaal introduced Portman at the event, joking, “I first met Natalie when I was in line at a Star Wars convention waiting for her to sign my Queen Amidala doll. I’m really hoping that she wins the Oscar because then that doll is going to worth a s–load of money!”
As the sun sets over the desert, Javier Bardem takes a moment to pose with fans before heading into the ceremony, where he received the international star award. “I guess the international star means that you don’t understand a word that I say,” joked the Spanish actor, before taking a more heartfelt turn, dedicating his award to wife . “She is a gift to my present and to my future,” the Eat Pray Love actor said.
One of the festival’s big honorees, – who received the chairman’s award – graciously accepts thanks from 127 Hours star James Franco. The Oscar host was on hand to support his film’s director, Danny Boyle, who took home the Sonny Bono visionary award.
After receiving his impressive award, Affleck poses on the red carpet with Amy Ryan, who presented him with the accolade. Ryan – who recently rejoined the cast of The Office – starred in Affleck’s first directorial effort, Gone Baby Gone.
After horsing around on the red carpet – Mark Wahlberg planted a kiss right on The Fighter director David O. Russell’s mouth! – the guys pose for a more formal shot with the drama’s costar, .
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN
Chic in purple Zac Posen, Dame Helen Mirren nearly steals the show at the Palm Springs Convention Center, where she presented her costar in The Queen, Colin Firth, with an acting award for his latest, much-lauded drama, The King’s Speech. “Actually, I’m not the Queen, and neither is Colin the King,” Mirren quipped, before adding, “He is simply a great, a truly great, and versatile actor.”
FACE TO FACE
“She’s powerful, yet she’s irreverent. She’s ludicrously beautiful, yet she is lacking in vanity enough to rock a mullet with pride,” joked The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield about Carey Mulligan, his costar in Never Let Me Go. At the festival, the actress won the breakthrough performance award for the dystopian drama.
