Lifestyle Style Derek Zoolander Gets His Big Vogue Cover Moment with Zoolander 2 Costar Penélope Cruz By Colleen Kratofil Published on January 15, 2016 04:25 PM Share Tweet Pin Email Blue Steel is back! The hottest male model in the industry, Derek Zoolander (played by Ben Stiller) is celebrating the long-awaited Zoolander 2 sequel with none other than a really, really, really ridiculously good-looking Vogue cover! He poses alongside costar Penélope Cruz giving us — wait for it — “Magnum.” (Plus, you won’t believe which other supermodels make a cameo in the spread!) Annie Leibovitz/ VOGUE In the duo’s sexy editorial (photographed by Annie Leibovitz) they take us through the glamorous life of the hottest male model in the world. It shows Zoolander and Cruz arriving on set in two hot model-off-duty outfits (leather, leather and more leather), Zoolander in a fitting with designer Alexander Wang and a backstage pic getting pampered alongside fellow supermodels (yes, that’s Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls!). Annie Leibovitz/ VOGUE Annie Leibovitz/ VOGUE Cruz plays the role of photographer throughout, capturing Zoolander’s fiercest faces (which Stiller says actually came very naturally to him). The actress revealed she had a hard time keeping a straight face while shooting. “He’d talk to me dressed in these absurd outfits, and that hair,” Cruz says of being on set with Stiller. “I couldn’t stop laughing in his face.” Annie Leibovitz/ VOGUE “That look came out of me in the mirror at home, when I brush my hair or whatever,” Stiller tells Vogue about his most famous pose. “I guess with the selfie culture, it’s just a natural extension. Did I have any idea that it would live on? No.” RELATED VIDEO: Why Valentino? Ben Stiller Talks Zoolander Paris Fashion Week If you think landing a cover as coveted as Vogue is outside the box, the magazine has been fully supportive of the sequel since last year. The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour famously gave out some helpful pointers before Zoolander and his frenemy-turned ally, Hansel (Hansel, so hot right now) walked the Valentino runway. “I kept saying, ‘Why are we even being secretive? It’s not so big a deal . . . we’re going to walk out there to a smattering of applause,'” Owen Wilson (who plays Hansel) tells the magazine about the catwalk walk-off. (Because “nothing attracts like the scent of No. 2.”) And it’s a hilarious way to tease another trailer for the film — which you need to watch below! Stiller says he loves being remembered for the role, “I’d much rather have somebody say, ‘Hey, Zoolander,’ than ‘Hey, Focker.'” And based on the hype around the sequel, and now, a legendary Vogue cover, people will probably keep asking for Blue Steel poses the rest of his career. “It’s hard for me to not do it when somebody wants to take a picture with me,” Stiller says. “I just go into it, like a trained dog.” You can pick up Vogue‘s February issue on newsstands January 26 and catch Zoolander 2 in theaters February 12.
