Designer Derek Lam is expanding his empire with his first-ever diffusion line. The “10 Crosby Derek Lam” collection, aptly named for his Crosby Street office in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, was created to bring an accessible and affordable approach to fashion, namely sportswear. “After the tough economic times, there definitely is a customer looking for fashion with an accessible reach, but considered in a fresh manner,” Lam told WWD. The collection will hit specialty and department stores on Nov. 1 with a resort 2011/pre-spring 2012 line featuring women’s ready-to-wear styles including dresses, blouses, pants, outerwear and jackets, with prices ranging from $225-$395 for knitwear to $395-$695 for jackets and outerwear. The designer’s most recent foray into affordable fashion came with his collection for eBay; three of the chic dresses are still available online.
