Demi Lovato Opens Up About Confidence: 'I Feel Most Beautiful When I'm Naked'

With her own cosmetic and skincare lines on the market, and a hit song titled “Confident”, Demi Lovato, the face of NYC New York Color, knows a thing or two about inner and outer beauty. And for the singer, feeling beautiful on the outside requires, well, not much at all.

“I feel the most beautiful when I’m naked,” Lovato tells PeopleStyle. “Just completely stripped down, completely organic, me. That’s when I feel the most confident, because that’s the most natural state that I could possibly get in.”

Which is why it’s no surprise that taking care of her body is what makes her feel her best. “The key for me is self-care,” Lovato says. “I love myself the most when I’m taking care of myself.”

And daily compliments from her boyfriend, Wilder Valderrama, can’t hurt either. “He tells me every day I’m beautiful, so that’s enough for me.” So much so, in fact, that she says she skips makeup on their date nights.

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love to have fun with beauty products, as her line with NYC New York Color, Lovatics by Demi, makes clear.

“The best thing about creating your own makeup line is you get to create products you really want and will actually use,” she says. “I know a lot about makeup, so I can tell you if the color or texture is right, but this was a new experience for me.”

And though she’s not a professional makeup artist, Lovato shares that she’s got some natural talent in that arena — noting she’s most skilled with her eyebrow pencil. “I’m pretty good at doing it,” she says. “The lip and cheek tint is great too because you can build the color, build the intensity, and it’ll last all day. And it’s very natural-looking.”

Performing is a natural outlet for Lovato’s makeup creativity, and her bold stage outfits also reflect her love of having fun with fashion: “Day to day, I don’t really wear anything close to them, so I actually get excited when I get to wear a really cool, sexy outfit onstage.”

Offstage, her style is “confident, sexy and edgy,” and she turns to her stylist and her glam team for advice. “And my friends, they’ll give their honest opinion,” she adds.

But at the end of the day, her opinion is the one that matters. “I feel like beauty comes from within, and exudes out,” Lovato says. “And the love that you have for yourself and the confidence that you have is what attracts other people to you.”
