David Beckham's Biggest Fashion Regret

The superstar recalls one major fashion don't from his past

David Beckham admits that he’s always liked fashion — but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t had a few misses here and there.

“Me and Victoria wore matching black leather outfits (left) once. They were Versace,” he recalls to
H&M Life
. “That’s one where I look back, like, ‘What were we thinking?’ We laugh about that one.”

Though the soccer star does have a sense of humor about style, he also takes it quite seriously. “Everything I’ve ever done, I’m involved,” he shares. “If I can’t be hands-on and totally involved, I don’t want anything to do with it. It’s something I’ve always done throughout my career. I don’t want to just give my name to someone to do whatever they want.”

That mantra applied to Beckham’s recent collaboration with H&M; he designed a line of men’s bodywear for the store. “I think H&M loved the fact that I was totally involved,” he says.

In fact, Victoria was involved, too; Beckham says he asked for her opinion throughout the design process. “She’s definitely someone whose judgment I trust, and she does have an expertise,” he explains.

Beckham — who admits he sets out the next day’s outfit every night before bed — sounds open to possibly designing a line as big as his wife’s someday, too.

“Maybe in the future something else will happen,” he says. “Five years ago, if someone had asked me if I was going to have my own underwear collection I would have said, ‘Probably not. No.’ And if someone had said to me 10 years ago that I would be playing soccer and living in America, I would have said the same thing. But plans change, life changes. So we’ll see.” Tell us: Would you wear clothes designed by David Beckham?
