Charli and Dixie D’Amelio Are the New Faces of Hollister! Go Behind-the-Scenes of Their First Campaign
TikTok stars and sisters Charli and Dixie D’Amelio were recently named the new faces of Hollister’s Jean Lab — a partnership that involves testing denim for a flattering fit and ultimate comfort with a little help from fellow Internet sensation Noah Pugliano and famed scientist Bill Nye — and they took PEOPLE behind-the-scenes of their first photoshoot for the teen fashion brand. Jeans hand-picked and sealed with the D’Amelio sister stamp of approval are available online and in stores starting July 16.
Charli, 16, and Dixie, 18, describe their personal style as “easy, comfortable, oversized,” adding that their “go-to” outfit consists of crop tops or an oversized sweatshirt paired with denim from their new Hollister collection.
“We are constantly stealing each other’s clothes,” the sisters admit. “We share almost everything.”
Charli, Dixie and Pugliano (a Hollister brand ambassador) will set out to discover perfect fitting denim as “jeanealogists” for the new back-to-school campaign.
Reflecting on their earliest memories of the brand, Charli and Dixie say they always stock up at Hollister before a new school year. “We’ve always especially loved their denim and basics,” Charli and Dixie tell PEOPLE.
Although both rose to fame on TikTok, the sisters have different hobbies and interest. Charli danced competitively before fame and used her impressive moves to go viral, while Dixie is a talented singer who dropped her first single “Be Happy” last month — and they couldn’t be happier for each other’s success.
“We both are always so supportive of each other and each let each other shine at different times,” Charli and Dixie explain. “We also always post and promote when one of us has a special project that’s important to us.”
But sometimes, they need a break from social media. Charli and Dixie try to unplug when they're hanging out with friends so they can "be in the moment and enjoy our time together."
Snap Back at It
As for the inevitable hate comments that come with having millions of followers online, the sisters admit, “It can be difficult at times, but we do our best to ignore it.”
“We’ve both been very vocal about being against cyber bullying,” they add. “It’s a simple message: be kind. We hope everyone can be kind to each other online and build each other up, instead of tearing each other down.”
When it comes to body shammers, the sisters aren’t afraid to clap back. They tell PEOPLE: “We should all be spreading love instead of hate. No one is perfect and everyone has flaws, so it’s not fair for anyone to be shaming others.”
Strike a Pose
"We hope that we can send the message that we can and should all feel comfortable in our own skin,” the social media influencers say of their new Hollister partnership. “Jeans are such a personal clothing item and sometimes it’s hard to find the fit you feel best in, but they are also a wardrobe staple, so working together to ensure there was a fit for everyone was really important to us."
Despite cashing in on their Internet fame (Charli became a multimillionaire in less than a year, according to Cosmopolitan), the sisters say they try to be financially responsible and “don’t really splurge" that much.
"But we do love shoes and bags," they add. "If anything, we often splurging on Amazon orders – juices, popsicles, chips, and endless snacks!"
Follow Back Girl
When asked what their favorite TikTok accounts to follow are, the sisters gave a sweet shout out: “Our parents are currently in the same room as us, so we’ll say @marcdamelio and @heididamelio!”
