See How Celebrities Are Taking Over Their Own Hair Styling at Home
From Brooklyn Beckham to Kyle Richards, these stars aren't afraid to cut or color their manes themselves
While quarantining in London, the Girls star decided it was no better time to take a chance at cutting her own bangs. The fringe didn't end up coming out exactly how she intended, but that won't stop Dunham from rocking her DIY look. "Just a little update on cutting my own bangs in quarantine- I've made a personal choice to embrace the uneven results!!!" she said on her Instagram Story.
"The last few months right? It has just taken a lot out of all of us and so I sort of let my hair go, [as] you can see," Hatcher says to kick off the video. "I have not made getting my hair dyed a priority."
She goes on to say that while she thinks gray looks great on some women, she's just "not ready" to embrace hers just yet and is actually "very excited" to spend her Saturday evening dyeing her hair.
She once again used her go-to Madison Reed Radiant Color Kit in "Sondrio Brown 6.5" and for the first time, tried out its Color Reviving Gloss, to liven up her brassy strands. In total it took her under an hour to get "beautiful, shiny, voluminous" hair.
With limited options during self-isolation, Joy Behar let her husband Steve Janowitz choose between two pandemic-safe activities: go on a walk or dye her hair. During Thursday’s episode of The View, the television personality said he chose the latter — and did a “pretty bad” job.
“There are stripes and dots,” she said, pushing back her red hair to reveal orange roots. “I’m not a cougar anymore, I’m a zebra at this point! It’s just the worst. Plus, he got spots all over the wallpaper in my bathroom."
She then showed her co-hosts the splashes of dye on the bathroom wall and asked them if they think the spots will come out. They weren’t very reassuring: “I don’t think so,” Sunny Hostin said. While Meghan McCain joked, “Probably not. It’s probably ruined forever.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar
The actress is feeling "rose all day" with her bright pink locks, which she dubbed her "quaran-color."
"Well, because we're still in quarantine, I had to think of a new and creative way to embarrass my children," she joked in her Instagram reveal video.
Lauren Burnham and Arie Luyendyk Jr.
While their daughter napped, they dyed their hair! The couple decided to have fun and play around with color — pastel pink for Burnham and an icy silver for Luyendyk Jr. — while they self isolated together in Phoenix.
With the help of celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton who guided him through the steps, the Today co-anchor gave himself a much-needed trim on live TV.
Taraji P. Henson
"You guys like my hair? And my makeup? I did it myself!" the Empire actress said in an Instagram video on Wednesday showing off her freshly dyed, fiery red hair and ringlet curls. To get the look she relied on her own arsenal of TPH by Taraji products, which is part of her solution-oriented haircare line that launched in January. "If this acting thing don’t work out I have another plan!"
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Think pink! Using the Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Color Conditioner, which deposits temporary color pigment into hair, the actress added some bubblegum highlights to her strands from home. "The smile of a girl who just did at home hot pink highlights because what else can I do right now! Thanks @limecrimemakeup these hair conditioners are easy and so fun!" she wrote on Instagram.

Since most of his work events have been “canceled for the foreseeable” future due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the country star decided it was the perfect time to bring back his signature '90s style — a mullet!
“I have an announcement. With basically EVERYTHING I had scheduled being canceled for the foreseeable further [sic] @gwenstefani and I have made a decision together. I am growing my mullet back as a symbol of hope or some s— like that.. Anyway it’s coming back! For real. Stay tuned…” he wrote on Twitter.
After getting a little bit tipsy while practicing social distancing, the musician thought it would be a "brilliant idea" to cut her own hair. But things didn't turn out the way she had hoped. “Look what I did,” Pink said as she turned her head to the side to reveal a missing chunk of hair. “What do you think? A good look?”
The Desperate Housewives actress, who has been "covering the gray at home for years," did an at-home color tutorial on Instagram using the Madison Reed Radiant Color Kit.
The actress has played around with pink hair before, but decided to try dyeing it herself while self-isolating amid coronavirus.
Chris and Scott Evans
The Avengers actor gave his younger brother a buzz cut which the pair documented on social media. “I’m really doing this,” Scott said in one clip as he turns on a hair buzzer. “Ugh! Here we go. Is this a good idea?”
After shaving off a large middle strip of hair, Chris quipped: “Well, there’s no going back now!”
“Root watch week one,” the Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host jokingly shared on her Instagram Story, along with a photo of her roots growing in.
The actor and rapper showed off a new 'do he did himself "that got outta hand."
“Anyone else do a #Stayhome haircut that got outta hand? Least now it feels like there’s someone else here when I look in mirror 😅” the star wrote alongside two photos of his fresh buzz.
