Five beautiful Cannes dresses to kick off the festival right!

With her new film Grace of Monaco opening the Cannes Film Festival Wednesday — and with last year’s unbelievable Cannes style streak behind her — we knew Nicole Kidman was going to bring her fashion A-game to this year’s opening night festivities. And she delivered as expected. From day to night, she kept things sophisticated and stately — we bet Grace Kelly would have been impressed.

For the photocall during the day, Kidman donned an ivory Altuzarra silk-and-crepe dress with strappy white sandals, delicate Harry Winston jewels and a lovely beauty look: perfectly curled and upswept hair with a pitch-perfect deep pink pout. For the nighttime premiere, she changed into a princess-y Armani Privé gown with a sweetheart neckline, padded hips and oodles of ornate embellishment. She swept her hair into a side braid and completed the look with a smoky eye and major Harry Winston diamonds.

Kidman wasn’t the only star making a style statement at the film’s premiere, however. (Seriously, did you see Blake Lively’s hair?) Karlie Kloss took the biggest risk in a black-and-eggplant lace caftan worn over a teal bodysuit for what may be the most elaborate interpretation of seaside attire we’ve ever seen (perhaps she heard Cannes was a beach town and ran with it?). Twenty-eight carats of Chopard diamonds completed her look.

Zoë Saldana made her first appearance as a face of L’Oréal in a much more minimalist look: A Victoria Beckham gown with pleated detailing and gold drop earrings. Christian Louboutin heels and her favorite red lip punctuated her romantic outfit. And finally, in the “Surprise Red Carpet Appearance” category we have Kendall Jenner, who went for a graphic black-and-white number and Stuart Weitzman heels, plus an enormous amount of Chopard jewelry.

What do you think of Nicole Kidman’s day-to-night change? Who has had your favorite Cannes dress so far?
