It all began with brown, silky bangs and mid-length strands, with which 12-year-old Britney made her debut on The Mickey Mouse Club
Five years later, the star burst back onto the scene with ‘Baby One More Time’ – and the video’s pigtail braids and bangs, which became arguably the most iconic hairstyle of the ’90s.
Before she transformed into the blonde bombshell that we know today, Britney sported her more natural light brown tousled waves and center-parted fringe.
She then lightened her hair to a golden strawberry shade, and even experimented with a curly bob.
Eventually, she transitioned to full-blown blonde — and discovered a straightening iron in the process.
Like most pop stars, Brit played around with wigs — like this long, jet-black banged number.
Then came her first true love affair – no, not with Justin Timberlake, with her crimper.
This sun-kissed, stick-straight, center-parted blonde style is the one that most embodies Classic Britney.
Like everyone else in the early ’00s, Brit went through a flippy bob phase (but unlike the rest of us, pretty much pulled it off).
And she eventually took her hair even shorter, into a straight banged bob that hit just below her jawline.
Back to black she went, with waist-length extensions and side-swept bangs.
Before there was Kylie Jenner’s wig closet, there was Britney’s fluoresecent-pink bob.
Bald Britney. Need we say more?
Months later, she made her return to the VMAs, wearing that Classic Brit cut again.
Growing out a haircut is never easy, but Brit made sure not to stress by reverting back to her natural texture and a darker hue.
Not long after, she returned to the red carpet with crimped curls and a newly frosty hue.
Brit took a few years off, then came back in a big way with some thick bangs and superlong extensions.
It was back to brunette for a moment, with the star opting for long, blown-out layers in a shade similar to her natural hue.
And she even tip toed into auburn teritory for a minute in 2014.
But months later, oops, she did it again! The star couldn’t stay away from her signature blonde hue for too long, though she surprised us by chopping her hair into a sophisticated bob.
The star then added some color — and length — to her style, dip-dyeing her extensions to create a bright turquoise and purple ombré statement.
She maintained the colorful look, sporting it in a straight, sky-high ponytail.
Her bold hair colors eventually faded, and Britney returned to her extra-long blonde locks.
And she’s stuck to the look ever since.
But if Britney has proven anything, it’s that she’s always game for a maor mane change — and there might be one in her near future. The star posted on Instagram, “Got my roots colored today!!! But now I think I want to CUT it!!!! 😉😉😜😜”
