Blake Lively Proves She's a Red Hot Mama Making Her 2016 Cannes Debut

The actress just gave a fresh twist on a classic jumpsuit

Despite what Taylor Swift or Gigi Hadid might have you believe, the hottest new red carpet trend isn’t about chokers or 90s slip dresses, but rather giving traditional couture apparel an androgynous twist. And while Emma Watson is typically the reigning queen of red carpet pant-gown hybrids, Blake Lively may have just stolen her crown with this jumpsuit-turned-maxi dress she wore on the opening day of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Blake is currently in France to promote her new film with Woody Allen, Café Society, making her debut at the festival at a photo call wearing a bright red wide-leg Juan Carlos Obando jumpsuit with a cross body panel that served double duty, giving this piece the illusion of being a gown and conveniently camouflaging the actress’s baby bump. She finished off her outfit with a sash at the waist, silver strappy Louboutin sandals she later showed off on Instagram and the classic Parisian answer to the ubiquitous choker — a thin scarf thrown nonchalantly around the neck.

But this was actually the actress’s second couture look at Cannes, kicking things off in an “Esmerelda” inspired wrap-around gown from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi with cold shoulders and rhinestone detailing across the neckline. She also showed off her towering Ferragamo snakeskin heels that prove, pregnant or not, this is a woman whole-heartedly committed to crafting the perfect ensemble. Cannes is essentially Blake’s version of a runway show, so expect this style MVP to be bringing the drama in some major looks all week long.
