Jennifer Aniston and Nikki Reed were among the stars who stuck to basics

It’s never just black and white … unless it’s fashion. Four stars turned up on the red carpet Thursday night wearing dresses composed of the two basic hues — and in our opinion, all four looked fabulous.

Jennifer Aniston led the charge, wearing a sexy white-on-top, black-on-bottom Valentino number to the American Cinematheque Award Gala in Beverly Hills. Her tablemate Laura Dern happened to go for the same setup, choosing a high-collared black-and-white gown for her night out.

Across the pond, Nikki Reed appeared at the Twilight premiere in Oslo, Norway, wearing a beaded halter gown by Naeem Khan. The dress featured white fringe on top and matte jersey on the bottom (yes, it’s navy — but close enough!). Back in New York, her Twilight costar Maggie Grace represented, selecting a sexy gold-belted black-on-top, white-on-bottom number for a screening of the film.

We’re all for colorful dresses on the carpet, but when the basics look so great, it’s hard to argue against them. Tell us: Whose black-and-white ensemble do you like best?
