Fling, Marry, Kill: The 2016 Trends Edition
This white-hot trend has been seen around the necks of celebrities including Emma Watson for more than a year now. We're guessing you'll have to pry them from the KarJenners' cold, dead hands - but for those among us without our own apps, we predict a few more months of choker love before the next big accessory trend catches on.
MARRY: LADY SUITS
A well-cut suit has been devastatingly sexy for years now, but this year they became more of a red carpet staple than a statement (thanks, Hillary Clinton?). Wear yours with a bustier, as Jennifer Lawrence did in Dolce & Gabbana, or a crisp button up - or really anything in between.
KILL: CREATURE COUTURE
It seemed that no celebrity emerged from 2016 without at least one butterfly or bird alighting on their dresses. (Seriously - see what we mean here.) We're ready for a red carpet that's a little bit less of a zoo.
FLING: OFF-THE-SHOULDER DRESSES
Flirty, fabulous and undeniably flattering, this silhouette had a major moment all year long, which means celebrities will soon be ready for something a little fresher. Plunging necklines, anyone?
MARRY: YEAR-ROUND WHITE
We've been saying for years that the old "no white after Labor Day" adage is tired, but stars finally seemed to get the memo, embracing the shade in colors from ice to ivory - and then adding wintery accessories to embrace the appropriate season.
KILL: BIG OL' PANTS
They don't make you look taller. They just make you look like you don't have a tailor. (Sorry, Kate Hudson, we still love you.) This year, everyone should embrace the properly fitted and hemmed trouser.
Due to the heavy weight of the fabric, this one necessarily has a short shelf life. But in the meantime, embrace all things romantic and tactile, as Felicity Jones has.
MARRY: OVER-THE-KNEE BOOTS
They're here to stay, so it may be time to invest in a pair (maybe via some post-holiday sales) and figure out how to make them work for you. If it's not with a miniskirt and brocade duster, well, we can't all be Alessandra Ambrosio.
KILL: UNLINED EVERYTHING
Ashley Graham's body is spectacular. We celebrate it at all times. But we are ready to see it (and every other star's skin) in a slightly less stale variation of the "everything is sheer" trend that's been unstoppable this year.
