These Beauty Products Changed Our Lives in 2016
CLARISONIC CLEANSING BRUSH
Alex Apatoff, Deputy Style Director: Yes, I know, people have been raving about these forever. But I am a longtime skeptic, and refused to believe it worked that well. Then I tried it, and, uh, consider me converted. It's amazing how squeaky-clean and soft it leaves your skin, and it's paved the way for me to try other things I was holding out on – like serums and toners. As a result, my skin looks better than ever.

GLOSSIER BOY BROW
Emily Kirkpatrick, Associate Style News Editor: My mom always told me to push up my eyebrows, and 28 short years later, I’ve finally come to understand the wisdom behind that motherly maxim. Thankfully, this year I also discovered Glossier’s Boy Brow which helps me make all of her parental follicle dreams come true, giving my unruly brow hair not only a sleeker, more groomed appearance and all day hold, but also a more naturally filled-in look thanks to the subtle tint in their gel formula.

GHD FLAT IRON
Sharon Kanter, Deputy Style Director: What really changed my life this year was finally figuring out that I need to keep a full getting-ready set at the office. I’m talking a whole set of hair and makeup things so that if I’m running late or going to an event after work, I have exactly what I need handy. (I can’t believe it took me this long to figure out.) And the absolute key to this process has been this GHD iron. It’s tiny enough to fit in my top desk drawer, and it has so many safety features (for example, it automatically shuts off and only goes up to a certain temperature) so I don’t accidentally burn the whole office down. Plus, it really does the trick, straightening my my hair quickly and makes it really smooth. It’s a game changer that's absolutely worth the money.

DRUNK ELEPHANT HYDRATION GEL
Colleen Kratofil, Style Writer-Reporter: I’ve been trying out new moisturizers lately and have been so disappointed - that is, until I discovered Drunk Elepant’s hydration gel. It not only does what it's suppose to (deliver crazy amounts of moisture to my skin) but it's started improving my skin too. Dry patches went away, my face stayed moisturized throughout the entire day, and most importantly, it doesn't feel oily at all.

RESURFACE BY SHANI DARDEN RETINOL REFORM
Jackie Fields, Beauty Editor: In the immortal words of Kanye West: "You see there’s leaders, and there’s followers." I’ll be the first to admit I was one of the last humans (after just about every celebrity under the sun, and some of my colleagues, too) to try Resurface by Shani Darden Retinol Reform. But after meeting celeb-loved facialist Shani Darden face to face, I was convinced of its skin-transforming power, and added it to my regimen. And behold: after a few weeks some ever-present dark spots were finally fading away, without even a hint of irritation.

Jillian Ruffo, Associate Beauty Editor: A fellow beauty editor friend once promised me that my skin would feel softer and my makeup would go on smoother if I shaved my face. I know -- I was alarmed too. But after doing it, I realized she was right, and I kept up the habit for a few years. What I didn't realize, however, was that the men's razor I was using was capable of shaving coarse, wiry hair -- not my peach fuzz. And then I discovered DermaFlash -- an at-home dermaplaning device that uses a razor to gently "shave" off peach fuzz and the top layer of dead skin. It's made specifically to be gentle on womens' faces, and the blade is encased behind a safety chamber, so there's no risk of nicking yourself like a razor would. Now, my skin has never been softer, and I've been glowing since my first use.

URBAN DECAY COLOR CORRECTOR
Lindy Segal, Style Social Editor: I remember the first time a makeup artist told me I had undereye circles: I was 12. (You get a complex! You get a complex! Everybody gets a complex!) I've never really found anything that perfectly covered them up, but this peachy color corrector comes pretty close. I apply a dab before putting on my regular concealer, and my eyes look even and brighter, with zero caking.

IT COSMETICS CC CREAM
Kaitlyn Frey, Style & Beauty Assistant: I don't have much to cover up on my skin, but I love playing around with foundations, BB and CC creams to achieve a flawless base. But it was hard to find the right blend of natural (some foundations are too cakey) and pigmented enough (many CC creams are too light) until I tried IT Cosmetics' cult-favorite CC this past year. It's popular for a reason: it makes my skin actually look like my own skin, while still covering up imperfections. When I wear it, people tell my how great my skin looks, not my foundation. Mission accomplished!

HOURGLASS VEIL MINERAL PRIMER
Sarah Ball, Fashion Market Editor: I was never a believer in primer (it’s just one extra step and cost), until I tried a sample of the Hourglass primer. I have pretty oily skin, which makes my makeup dissapear halfway through the day and this actually did the trick! It also leaves your skin feeling super soft.

PATCHOLOGY LIP GELS
Brittany Talarico, Senior Style Editor: I used to consider a swipe of Carmex to be all the moisture my lips needed, but after seeing the popularity of lip patches on Instagram, I was curious to test them out myself. Now I'm hooked on these Patchology lip gels. They not only hydrate my pout (in five minutes!) but also combat fine lines around my mouth at the same time. They're vital during the winter months and while the $50 price tag seems steep, you get 24 patches in one container. I use them twice a week, so it lasts all winter!
