Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Baldwin Hit Cannes as the Models Begin to Arrive at the Film Festival

The film festival is already starting to ramp up with a number of supermodels arriving ahead of the first official red carpet

The Cannes Film Festival is ostensibly just that, a festival devoted to celebrating all of the latest and greatest works of cinema the industry has to offer, ranging from the next runaway indie hit to those destined to become artsy cult classics. But as anyone who's ever looked at coverage from the event can tell you, the real stars of the show aren't the films, but the endless parade of A-listers on the red carpet accompanied by a bevy of the world's top supermodels, all clad in the latest couture and heaps of mega-carat diamonds. And because Wednesday marks the first day of the 70th annual festival, naturally some of the biggest catwalk stars have already started to descend upon the coastal French town, beginning with Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin and Emily Ratajkowski.

Cannes wouldn't truly be Cannes without the arrival of Emily Ratajkowski accompanied by her wardrobe of teeny-tiny two-pieces, a couple of nearly nude selfies, and a whole lot of diamonds. In her most recent Instagram post, the Gone Girl actress previewed a few of those multi-million dollar jewels we've come to expect from the red carpet, posting a topless selfie, demurely covering up her breasts with diamond and ruby ring-covered hands with her hair pulled back into a very Parisian up-do wearing two elaborate strands of precious jewels from Bulgari, a choker featuring pearls, rubellite and diamonds set in pink gold and a giant pendant necklace featuring a big emerald surrounded by even more rubies and diamonds.

But the model-slash-actress kicked off the festival season with substantially less bling in a ribbed turquoise bikini from Velvet Sphynx with a low scoop neckline and criss-cross back straps and bottoms with matching double-crossed straps with the top strap pulled high up over her hips.

She then posted two photographs to Instagram showcasing yet another suit in her arsenal, a little red bikini, which she wore aboard a yacht adjacent to the storied Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. In the two latest images on her social media account, a bikini-clad Ratajkowski leans casually against the boat's railing in one photo, and half-turned towards the camera in front of the ship's mast in the other, for optimal belfie angles. Now all that remains to be seen is if EmRata will be able to find a way to actually wear one of her beloved bathing costumes on the Cannes red carpet itself.

Bella is practically the poster girl of Cannes after making her debut at the event last year as the guest of jeweler De Grisogono, shutting down the red carpet day after day in one nearly naked dress after the next.

So of course she was one of the first celebrities to arrive in advance of the almost two-week-long affair. To celebrate her first full day basking in the French Riviera, the model chose a very clean, summery look, wearing a white silk bralette top, matching duster and high-rise skate skirt from Area, which she paired with $795 nude Olgana Paris S-strap pumps, a Dior handbag and Dior clear nonprescription aviator frames.

Bella's BFF Hailey Baldwin followed her stylish lead, also wearing an all-white outfit, but opting for something a little more befitting a Memorial Day weekend BBQ. She chose a collared white linen dress, slightly unbuttoned and tied with a sash at the waist, accessorized with white satin platform sandals, gold hoop earrings and Victoria Beckham rose-colored mirrored aviator sunglasses.
