The road to a flawless red carpet look is often not so flawless: Eva Longoria lost two of her wardrobe trunks at the airport before the Cannes Film Festival. Still, her stylist didn’t fret. “We always have a Plan B,” Charlene Roxborough tells PeopleStyle. “And of course the trunks popped up, they always pop up!” Get all the details on the (Plan A!) Pamella Roland gown she and Longoria selected for the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival.

“I start reaching out to designers in March, and our first fitting was the second week in April,” says Roxborough. “We have to get at least six or seven gowns organized for her. We reach out to designers and a lot of times the dress could be at a sale event — like at Neiman’s [Marcus] in Dallas or wherever. And I’ll send pictures to Eva and say, ‘These are the items that we have coming in.’ And I see if we need extra fabric or extra beading, and work back and forth until it’s completed. And then do another fitting to make sure that it’s all put together.”
“This year we wanted to do something that was very sleek and fitted,” she says. This Pamella Roland dress from the Fall 2016 collection fit the bill. “It looks very regal. To me, it just looked very angelic, as if she’s just floating down the red carpet.”

The runway shot of this dress happens to be NSFW: The front panel is totally sheer. “Eva tried on the fitting Eva says, ‘Oh my God you can see my nipples!’ And those lights in Cannes… when they flash, they flash through your gown. When you’re walking down the runway that’s one thing, but for real life it makes more sense and is more sophisticated to have the piece lined underneath.”
Roxborough also added a belt to cinch in her waist and elongate her 5’2” frame. “Eva loved the idea of the belt just hanging loose,” she says.

Longoria’s custom-made Lorraine Schwartz earrings and ring were worth more than $2 million — and they were made in just two weeks! “I reached out to Lorraine and sent her a photo of the dress just to give her an idea of the direction that we’re going in. I’ve been working with her for years,” says Roxborough. “The thing with Lorraine is that she always comes up with these amazing ideas when she sees the dress: What stones she wants to use, what size, what cut, what color. So she made these amazing ear cuffs for Eva. They just give a clean, modern, sophisticated, chic look.” (Oh, and the jewelry didn’t in Cannes the morning of the red carpet!)

THE BEAUTY LOOK:
Makeup artist Charlotte Willer added gold foil accents to her black bold cat eye. Longoria is a longtime ambassador for L’Oréal Paris and based on Instagram posts from fellow L’Oréal ladies Karlie Kloss and Irina Shayk, her gilded lids might be part of a larger inspiration; They’ve been teasing a “secret” project labeled “#goldobsession” featuring similar futuristic metallic makeup looks.
