Vanessa Grimaldi Gushes Over Nick Viall's Engagement Ring: 'It's Very Big, Just Like My Personality'
Vanessa Grimaldi was so excited to see Nick Viall propose on Monday's finale of The Bachelor, she didn't stop to look at her 3.75-carat engagement ring
Vanessa Grimaldi was so excited to see Nick Viall get down on one knee and propose on Monday’s finale of The Bachelor that she didn’t even stop to really look at the 3.75-carat engagement ring he was handing her.
“When I first saw the ring I thought ‘it’s massive’ ” the 29-year-old reality star told PEOPLE Now on Tuesday. “I think the thing I was trying to process was that Nick was on one knee. I had seen the ring but I’m like, ‘I can’t believe Nick is actually on one knee proposing.’ ”
“I don’t think you really looked at the ring until 10 minutes later,” Viall, 36, joked with her.
When she finally did stop to check out the bling, she was a little confused — mistaking the cut of the diamond.
“When he put the ring on me I was like, ‘Oh my God — I’ve always wanted a cushion-cut ring.’ And he was like, ‘It’s a round diamond,’ Grimaldi said. “Now I know it’s not a cushion cut.”
In fact, the platinum ring has a round-cut diamond in its center with a halo of smaller diamonds around the center stone. It’s accented with a total of 164 round-cut and 2 larger baguette-cut diamonds.
“I was going for a classical look with the round diamond but also something modern and fashionable, which the baguette-cut diamonds evokes,” celebrity designer and the hit ABC reality show’s go-to jeweler Neil Lane told PEOPLE. “It’s a very romantic, sparkly ring and Nick also liked the unusual detail and the fact that it was both classical and fashion-forward.”

And Grimaldi herself served as inspiration, Viall told PEOPLE: “I just closed my eyes and just envisioned her beautiful face. I knew immediately which one was perfect for her.”
Grimaldi appeared to agree. “It’s very big, just like my personality,” she joked with PEOPLE Now. “I didn’t know what kind of ring I wanted either way, so I was going to be happy with a proposal either way.”
Though the two had a perfect proposal, their fairy tale moment hit its first speed bump shortly thereafter.
The cameras captured the two riding off in a romantic sleigh ride — but turned off just before the sleigh had a little accident.
“We fell over,” Viall said. “That sleigh tipped over! We got lost in the woods.”
“Completely tipped over,” Grimaldi remembered, laughing.

And while love is in the air, a wedding date isn’t set just yet.
“There’s no reason of speeding up the process,” Grimaldi told PEOPLE. “We’re still in the process of getting to know each other outside Bachelor world. We’re still in the process of getting to know ourselves too. We’ haven’t planned a date yet.”
“I don’t think you have to pretend what this world isn’t and what it is,” Viall added. “We’re okay with saying we still have a lot to learn about each other and that’s okay. We’re excited about doing that! I think we want to focus on doing that than anything else and keep moving our relationship forward.”
