Any celebrity makeup artist will tell you that they have Make Up For Ever in their kit at all times. And any celebrity, period, will tell you that they keep the brand’s products in their purse at all times. The brand is one of the few that bridge pro and everyday seamlessly, and they’re making that point by transforming two top-tier celebs — in-demand model Andreja Pejic and “everygirl” star Jamie Chung — in a series of fun videos for the brand titled “Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You.” (And, in the world’s greatest modeling perk, each got a palette designed just for them.)

Pejic is having a huge year, after becoming the first transgender model to land a spread in Vogue and making her runway debut in London women’s fashion week in February. But even with all her success, Pejic says, landing the Make Up For Ever campaign is “beyond my dreams and hopes.”

“Landing a cosmetics contract is a huge deal for any model — it’s sort of the Oscars of the fashion world,” she tells PEOPLE. “And this is a brand that matches what I’ve tried to portray in my career: The message has always been about being okay to be yourself and living a truthful life, being able to express yourself. It’s okay to be different.”

Even when she’s not on camera, Pejic says she loves playing with makeup — “it’s very fun for me, for sure, and it’s always been a way of making myself feel prettier” — but even supermodels have beauty phases they’d rather forget in their past. “When I was a teenager, I was a little emo for six months, maybe. I was using a lot of extremely light foundation and eyeliner. That was a phase that was kind of interesting that I wouldn’t wear again!”

These days, when she’s not being transformed for the camera as in the video below (her favorite look is the “simple, dramatic, glamorous” bright red lip) she keeps the brand’s Artist Plexi-Gloss on hand in Red Coral in her bag and swears by the brand’s Ultra HD stick (not available until September) for “much more natural” contouring. But we’re crediting her beauty to her very happy life philosophy.

“I’m so happy with what’s happening right now,” she tells PEOPLE. “There’s things still left for me to do, but I’m concentrating on the now and basking in the joy. It’s healthy emotionally to stay in the present!”

Chung’s transformations weren’t as “editorial,” but she still transformed from her more natural everyday look to her personal favorite, the dark plum lipstick that got her vote for “being a bit more edgy and eccentric and a bit dangerous.” And though she got to play with the brand’s new products on set, she’s been a Make Up For Ever fan going back to the early days of her career.

“I’m all about skin, so being on set on one of the first jobs that I had we used Make Up For Ever HD, and I’ve used it ever since,” she says. “Their new Ultra HD Foundation is coming out in July … [and] I can’t live without because I literally use it every day.”

The actress is also used to being photographed, but she echoed Pejic’s sentiment that this was a huge deal for her. “I was really nervous going into the meeting, but landing something like this for a company that I really believe in was kind of a dream come true,” she tells PEOPLE. “I was totally over the moon. I love [what it stands for] because everyone is so unique and so different.”

And though in her personal life, Chung’s go-to look is a bright lip, you’re not likely to see her on date night rocking a look like she does in the video. “I mean, I love the bold lips, but [fiancé Brian Greenberg] does not because there’s not a lot of kissing going on that night with red lips on. It’s strange, but it’s totally my go-to thing.”

Finally, celeb-loved makeup guru (and the brand’s pro consulting artist) Melanie Inglessis talked a bit about her experience on set with both stars. “Jamie and Andreja are both inspiring women who embody the ‘Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You.’ spirit,” she says. “Like me, they believe in the message to embrace who you are and show it fearlessly to the world. I’ve known the brand for so long, and showing it in this way feels modern.”

And though Inglessis is a beauty genius, even she got some practice in before the cameras rolled. “Before the shoot, I spent time creating and practicing the looks I planned,” she said. “I knew I’d have no time for major change once we were in the studio to photograph Jamie and Andreja in each makeup. It was so much fun to design the transformations that we see in the final images. At the shoot, seeing the makeup I designed come to life on Jamie and Andreja was really very exciting.”

For girls who want to try out the brand’s philosophy in baby steps, Inglessis recommends that you “Have fun! Try a bold lip color or a colored eyeliner to start. Keep it to one strong feature and you really can’t go wrong,” she says. “Playing with makeup is fun and such a great way to let your personality show through your face. It can help you show what makes you different, to find creativity within yourself and to be you! Explore, make mistakes, take it off and create again.”
