Celebrity makeup artist Andrea Tiller spilled the secrets behind her detailed futuristic eyeliner look, which Schumer paired with voluminous waves and a long, high-slit Alexander Wang gown.

“The cat eye look took about 40 minutes to achieve,” Tiller says of the look. “We had 2 hours for glam so a lot of the work went into prepping the skin beforehand so the makeup looks flawless and fresh!”

So how did Schumer and her glam squad get into the theme of the night? Her gown gave them all the inspiration they needed. “The dress and accessories had a lot of different and futuristic details, so just seeing it in the flesh before starting glam was really inspiring and got us on the mood and vibe of The Met Gala,” Tiller shares.

And unless you were up-close and personal with Schumer, you wouldn’t know that her eyeliner wasn’t your typical cat eye. “The direction for the makeup was to compliment the dress,” Tiller explains of the look, which she created using Laura Mercier’s Chocolate Espresso eyeshadow and Tightline Cake Eyeliner in Black Ebony, among other products “We took a classic approach to the eyes and made it really edgy and cool with the statement cat eye liner, and when Amy looks down, there is a futuristic shape to the liner — it’s not a straight line. It has edges that are different and unexpected when she looks down which also makes it special.”

Her dress, a red floor-length gown with a thigh-high slit, was a nod to the Manus x Machina theme of the event with its futuristic-feeling cutouts and bike-chain straps.
