For the majority of us, Alicia Silverstone will forever be inextricably linked with her character from Clueless, Cher, the always dressed-and-accessorized-to-the-nines quintessential ’90s Beverly Hills teen (frosted pink lip gloss and all). But in real life, the actress couldn’t be more different from her iconic alter ego, preferring all things vegan, eco-friendly, and organic. So of course, when it comes time for her to take a selfie, it’s makeup-free or bust.
In her latest Instagram post from Tuesday, the star, 39, took a momentary break from strolling along the beach to snap a quick shot of herself seaside. In the picture, Silverstone smiles for the camera totally makeup-free with her slightly damp hair hanging in loose waves to her shoulders and the ocean crashing against the shore in the background.
But this is nowhere near the first time the actress has let her natural beauty shine through. In fact, she’s shaped her whole post-Clueless career around teaching other women how they can get her same inner glow with a number of beauty collaborations. She’s also given some very wise words of advice when it comes to beauty, aging, and her secret to living her best life. Below, we’ve rounded up a few of her best kernels of cruelty-free wisdom.
Time Is An Illusion:
When asked by Redbook, what’s an ideal age in your mind? Alicia gave a very zen response: “Right now. And whatever ‘now’ is until forever.”
Give Up the Animal Products for Good:
Launching her collection for EcoTools, she told Allure, “The best beauty secret in the world is to get your diet in order. I’ve been vegan for 13 years.” [Editor’s Note: *slowly puts down a quarter-pounder with cheese*]
Start Your Day with Kegels:
Speaking to Well + Good about her morning routine, the actress insists that it’s important to her to start her day off on the right foot (so to speak) saying, “Before I get out of bed, I try to put my legs up the wall, breathe, and do kegels.”
It’s OK to Spoil Yourself Sometimes:
WebMD asked the star if she ever indulges in “bad” foods, to which she replied, “I’m human! I might make sourdough toast with almond butter, or get really good bread from the farmers’ market with 28-year-aged balsamic vinegar.” Note to self: apparently, bread should not be consumed by the loaf at every single meal.
Fashion Is Confusing:
And finally, despite playing one of the most famous shopaholics in film history, she told The Guardian, “Clothes make me dizzy.” Same, Alicia, same.
