8 Summer Beauty Products We Can't Live Without
CALYPSO ST. BARTH CASABLANCA
Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: The first thing I do when the weather starts to heat up is rotate out my heavy winter scents for lighter, fresher fragrance (basically, the olfactory version of putting your sweaters and boots in storage and breaking out the sundresses and sandals). And just like there’s always an official “song of summer” that you can’t stop listening to, each year I find a new aroma that I wear from now until fall and this delicious blend of coconut, violet and sandalwood is it.
R+CO FOIL FRIZZ + STATIC CONTROL SPRAY
Lindsay Schallon, Senior Style Editor: You know that scene in Friends where Monica goes to Barbados and her hair explodes? Okay, mine doesn’t get that bad in the humidity, but it still gets crazy frizzy. That’s why I’m stocking up on this anti-frizz spray now, before summer’s brutal weather officially hits. It’s light enough to spritz all over without weighing down my fine hair; plus, it’s sulfate-free so it doesn’t dry my strands out. Another added bonus? I love how pretty the can looks on my vanity.
SOLEIL TOUJOURS UPF 50+ HATS
Jackie Fields, Beauty Editor: I am all for head to toe sun protection, so to say I am obsessed with Soleil Toujours’ new UPF 50+ hats is an understatement. The Brigitte Bardot-inspired brims, available May 18 (just in time for that inaugural Memorial Day BBQ), block out 98 percent of UV rays while stylishly accessorizing any summer look. At $410 and up (this “Sophia” style is $445) they’re admittedly more than a few tubes of your fave SPF, but the adjustable, hand-crafted, classic toppers are worth the splurge.
Catherine Kast, Style Editor: Anytime anyone says to me “You look tan,” my response is immediately “It’s the Tan Towel!” That’s because it’s my go-to for a natural glow. The application is genius – the towelette is bigger than you think, and really cool to the touch. It keeps your fingernails free of that yucky self-tan goop. And you can get dressed the second you feel dry, which for me is between five and 10 minutes, with no fear of transferring color to your clothes.
YES TO CUCUMBERS SUNSCREEN STICK
Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor: I’ll sing the praises of this SPF 30 to anyone who will listen for three reasons: It’s the perfect travel sunscreen (no space in my liquids bag needed). It’s got all the good sun protection with none of the dangerous stuff. And it’s the only natural sunscreen I’ve found that rubs in with zero effort. I’d buy it in bulk if I could!
NO BLOW-DRY SERUM
Sarah Kinonen, Style & Beauty Editorial Assistant: This summer, I’m saying sayonara to my blow dryer. Thanks to the heat and my fried strands, I’ll be embracing my natural texture and letting my locks air dry on the daily. After a couple of spritzes of Shu Uemura’s Wonder Worker to my towel-dried hair, I’ll air-dry in no time (without added frizz), which is perfect for those too-hot-to-function days in our near future.
BLISS'S 'FUZZ' OFF FOAM
Brittany Talarico, Style News Editor: If you’ve ever suffered from razor burn, you need this product. (And if you haven’t, I’m really, really jealous.) Bliss’s spray-on rinse-off body hair removal foam nourishes and hydrates skin and slows re-growth. It’s my new go-to for under my arms and those times I can’t make it for a bikini wax. Plus, it smells 10 times better than other hair removal products out there.
NEUTROGENA COOLDRY SPORT SUNSCREEN SPRAY
Colleen Kratofil, Style Writer/Reporter: As soon as it’s warm enough to run outside in shorts and a T-shirt, it means I’m at the drugstore loading up on Neutrogena sunscreen (really, I’ve been using it since high school). I love their Sport line because it stays on longer than any brand I’ve tried. Even during grueling workouts on 90 degree days there’s no grimy residue or runoff. I always restock on their Sport Face Oil-Free Lotion too – I swear by its breakout-free capabilities.
