7 Ways to Steal Julianne Hough's Style

Rework Your Suit
Patrickson loved this look on Hough, which featured a Paule Ka suit, Alexis Mabille bustier, Edie Parker clutch and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. “A suit is a staple for any woman because it’s one of the most versatile pieces that you can own,” said Patrickson. “It can go from business meeting to date night to brunch with the girlfriends. The key to changing it up is to pull it apart. Do a blouse during the day. Or wear the blazer with jeans. Then, at night, put on a bustier or a really gorgeous black lace bra and button up the jacket.”

Add a Pair of Chunky Heels to Your Closet
According to Patrickson, shoes with a stacked, chunky heel are the must-have look of the season. “The style is much more comfortable, and it's easier to wear, especially when your walking around and doing your thing.” While this Aldo pair looks fantastic with Hough's Self-Portrait dress and the “nude color goes with everything,” Patrickson also suggested wearing this footwear with a more casual outfit, like a tee and jeans.

Don't Fear Sheer
“Wearing sheer is actually a lot easier than I think people imagine it to be,” Patrickson said. “It’s an easy way to do something sexy without showing too much.” And that’s what you see in Hough's Monique Lhuillier design. “You could recreate this look by wearing a strapless dress over a sheer top,” she added. “But the easiest way to try it is with panels and layers, like a sheer bodysuit with a blazer over it. Then wearing sheer doesn’t become as scary.”

Find New Ways to Wear Classics
If you want to take your classics up a notch, look for something that has a new spin, like Hough’s Little White Dress by Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet featuring a black criss-cross side-cutout. “Something classic with a tiny little bit of a twist is always a good win in my book,” said Patrickson. The key is fit: “The fit needs to be perfect—there is nothing worse than a white dress that’s too tight.”

Add Some Personality to Your Tops
Patrickson chose this shoulder-cut out mini by Yigal Azrouel because it offered an “element of interest to the top of the body,” she said. “You can do the same thing and look for cutouts on sweaters or blouses—there is really something for everybody. Plus, a little cutout flatters any body shape you have.”

Rock a Fit-and-Flare Dress
“This silhouette is a classic solution for a pear shape,” Patrickson said of this Jill Stuart LWD. “Anyone who has a smaller torso and a bigger bottom will look great in this because it accentuates that hourglass figure. The way the skirt flares also makes your legs look teeny tiny, like you have two little pins.” In need of a jacket, but don’t know which to choose? “Find something that doesn’t cut away on the skirt, like a cropped moto jacket or a cropped blazer.”

Embrace Off-the Shoulder
While this is a formal gown look, Patrickson's takeaway is a simple one: Every body type looks good in an off-the-shoulder look like Hough’s KaufmanFranco gown. “It’s such a great part of a woman’s body because it looks good no matter your age or size,” she said. “You can do it with a long sleeve, you can do it with a very casual vacation-y maxi dress or it can be very dressed up, like in this way.”
