American Horror Story: Hotel star Sarah Paulson brought the sparkle to the red carpet in a fully sequin Naeem Khan design at the Critics’ Choice Awards Sunday evening, and she kept the metallic motif going into her updo. Paulson teamed the glitzy dress with a headful of silver bobby pins pinned visibly throughout her swept-back style for a high-fashion take on the classic hair accessory.

We saw a similarly styled look on Khloé Kardashian last week, courtesy of celeb stylist César DeLeön Ramirêz. And considering how fans reacted to the visibly pinned look in her Instagram comments, we doubt this will be the last time we see exposed pins on the red carpet this season.

Rooney Mara, the current queen of intricate updos, brought out the big guns with her knotted braids, designed by the star’s mane man, celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel, to the Critics’ Choice Awards Sunday night.

While Abergel usually opts for sleek braids and twine-woven styles, the hair guru clearly went all out with Mara’s look, which Abergel describes as “Edwardian knots,” for the night.

And last but certainly not least, January Jones stepped out of her beauty comfort zone (think: simple chignons and playful ponytails) for the Fox Television Critics Association All-Star party in Pasadena, California, with a hairstyle we never thought we’d see her sport: cornrows!

The edgy do, which was a tri-braided style that wrapped all the way down the back her neck with wispy face-framing flyaways, was courtesy of hair guru Bridget Brager, and complemented the star’s bold berry lip and graphic logo A-line minidress.
