Canadian ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir took home their second individual gold medal in the sport Tuesday morning (Monday evening stateside), and their passionate dances are charged with so much sexual tension you’re surprised the ice doesn’t melt beneath them.

And after watching their world record-busting free dance, a sexy performance set to a medley of songs from Moulin Rouge!, there’s one question on everyone’s minds: Are Tessa and Scott dating?

Publicly, the answer is no — although the duo pointedly avoided the question when Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie directly asked them about their relationship on Today Tuesday morning.

“Your chemistry’s undeniable. Twitter’s exploding. They want you guys to be a couple,” Kotb told the pair before Guthrie chimed in, “We kind of do, too.”

Virtue, 28, responded, “Well, that’s such a compliment that you feel that when you watch us skate. We love performing together. We love storytelling, especially with Satine and Christian in the Moulin Rouge! program. That was really close to our hearts. We knew we wanted to skate to that music.”

“Guess mission accomplished,” Moir, 30, added. “That was the story we were telling, so I’m happy that you fell in love with that.”

The pair have been dancing together since their ages were in the single digits. When Tessa was seven and Scott was nine they did “date” for a few months, but since then it’s been entirely friendly, they insist.

This is despite the fact that, according to Canada’s National Postthey occasionally share “platonic kisses on the lips during practices.”

People really want Virtue and Moir to be together. So much so that there’s even fan fiction out there about them, and in the deepest, darkest corners of the internet, a rumor has even been floated that they’re married with a secret child. And who can blame people for harboring a not-so-secret desire for their favorite champion skaters to match up in real life?

Their chemistry is undeniable, and their performances are sexually charged — so much so that one of their lifts was banned for being too sexual. They’ve even played the newlywed game (and passed with flying colors.)

And with all this public desire for the pair to couple up in real life, Tessa and Scott have had to talk about their relationship. A lot. So in service of public interest, we’ve compiled what they’ve said about their friendship, the chance of a romance and each other’s romantic lives through the years.

1. Scott on what he’d make of a potential boyfriend of Tessa’s
“If Tessa had a boyfriend, the guy better be really good to her,” he said during an episode of their reality show, Tessa & Scott.

2. Scott on his skating partner’s best qualities
“Tessa is brilliant in every sense,” he said during an interview. “Everybody should have a Tessa.”

3. Scott on the rumors that he and Tessa are married
“Maybe that means we’re doing our job?” Scott told Canadian magazine MacLean’s in Jan. 2018. “We’re always telling stories; we’re supposed to be reacting, a man and woman on the ice; it’s romantic. What we have is such a cool relationship. It’s more about a friendship; our working relationship is so strong. We take so much pride in that.”

4. Tessa on the same rumors
“If that’s the by-product of having a great longstanding partnership, then we can deal with it,” she told MacLean’s in the same interview.

5. Tessa on the difficulty of dating.
“We’ve been so focused on training for the Olympics, and for the last while, I would have been a terrible girlfriend,” she said in a 2014 radio interview. “I was just so narrow-minded about the Olympics, and that’s all I was thinking about and that took up all our time.”

6. Scott on the men who want to date Tessa
“It’s funny the guys that come to me and want to be my best friend and try to get in that way,” he also said in the radio interview.

7. Tessa on why she and Scott aren’t dating
“It’s hard when you’ve grown up with someone,” she told Canada’s The Globe and Mail in November 2010. “I’ve known Scott since I was 6 or 7.”

8. Scott on the origins of their relationship
“It was romantic in the beginning,” he said to The Globe and Mail, referencing their short-lived childhood “romance,” which ended in a phone call.

9. Tessa and Scott on the public attention on their personal lives
“We haven’t had scrutiny, have we?” Scott asked Tessa during the November 2010 interview. She responded: “Feels like it.” To which Scott said: “No, not really. Do you want to talk about it?”

10. Tessa on their partnership.
“People search their whole lives for someone that special, and we have that, and we feel very fortunate,” she said in an episode of their onetime reality show, Tessa & Scott, which aired in 2014.

11. Scott on the challenges of finding a romantic interest who gets what he has with Tessa
“It’s really tricky to find someone who understands the relationship that Tessa and I have, because it’s unique,” he said on Tessa & Scott.

12. Scott on how they’ve changed
“Some days I look at Tessa and I just think this is such a funny little relationship that we have,” he said in an interview with the CBC. “It’s better than it was 20 years ago, 15 years ago, five years ago, winning the Olympics, in our biggest fights, in our highest moments. I think now it’s better than it’s ever been, and that’s a friendship.”

And a bonus: Their former coach, Paul MacIntosh, on their childhood relationship.

“The whole world would like them to date,” he told CBC. “But they were ‘dating’ at age nine and seven, and I think Scotty broke it off. And he would say that’s 19 or 20 years of regret.”

The world’s collective response to Scott on that comment? It’s not too late.
