Toast the Summer Olympics – with Bourbon and Tea
The Summer Gold cocktail mixes America's native spirit, bourbon, with traditional English ingredients
The Summer Olympic Games kick off Friday and what better way to celebrate amazing athletic achievement than to have a few cocktails.
Basil Hayden’s Bourbon and San Francisco-based mixologist Daniel Hyatt have created a new drink called the “Summer Gold” to honor the good ol’ U.S.A – and the U.K. where the Games are being played.
The new concoction combines America’s native spirit, bourbon, with traditional English ingredients like black tea and Pimm’s No. 1 (the Brit’s favorite liqueur).
1 ½ parts Bourbon
¼ part Pimm’s No. 1
½ part cold black tea
¼ part simple syrup
1. In a metal tumbler, muddle mint into the simple syrup until mint becomes aromatic.
2. Add remaining ingredients and ice.
3. Stir together until tumbler gets cold.
4. Top off with more ice and garnish with fresh mint and an orange peel twist.

Cruzan’s Victory Sip
Victory Sip Ingredients
1 part black cherry rum (try Cruzan’s or similar)
1 dash bitters
Sparkling wine (any variety of Prosecco or Cava will work)
A black cherry
Pour rum into a champagne flute and top with sparkling wine. Add a dash of bitters to finish. Garnish by dropping a lemon twist wrapped cherry into the flute.
