Boxing legend Muhammad Ali has been hospitalized for follow-up care for a urinary tract infection that previously landed him in the hospital in December.

“He was admitted to an undisclosed hospital earlier this week and is in stable condition,” his rep said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Ali is expected to be released on Friday.

“Ali hopes to celebrate his 73rd birthday on Saturday at home with family,” the rep continued. “The Muhammad Ali family respectfully requests privacy.”

The former heavyweight champ, 72, suffers from Parkinson’s disease. He was also hospitalized at the end of last year with what doctors had first believed to be a mild case of pneumonia but was later determined to be a severe urinary tract infection.
