Tennis legend Novak Djokovic‘s 30-match Grand Slam winning streak was broken on Monday in a heated battle against rising American star Sam Querrey.

The 28-year-old California native described his history-making win – which ended Djokovic’s bid to be the first man to complete a Grand Slam since 1969 – as “incredible.”

“I’m so ecstatic, so happy. I played the break points well and every time he had a break point I was able to come up with a big serve,” Querrey told BBC of Djokovic.

The rising star, who was seeded 28th and ranked 41st in the world, completed the third-round win on Friday after several rain delays. “He deserved to win,” Djokovic conceded after the match.

On Monday, Querrey defeated Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-4 on his way to his first grand slam quarterfinal.

“If I didn’t win, there would have been a lot of, ‘Wow, it was kind of a fluky match against Novak because you didn’t back it up,’ ” Querrey told ESPN after the match.

But he did – and now he’s on his way to becoming a household name in America. Here’s what you need to know about Sam Querrey:
