American Pharoah Wins the Kentucky Derby
The horse beat out 19 fellow competitors and now has a chance to compete for the Triple Crown
American Pharoah has won the Kentucky Derby.
The horse beat out 19 competitors to wear the rose garland at Churchill Downs on Saturday, as a crowd sporting their Derby hats and sipping mint juleps cheered the event dubbed “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.”
American Pharoah, led by jockey Victor Espinoza, beat out other frontrunners including Dortmund, Carpe Diem, Materiality, Mubtaahij and Frosted.
The horse now has a chance to compete for the Triple Crown if it can secure wins at the Preakness on May 16 and the Belmont Stakes on June 6.
Saturday’s race caps off a weekend of partying in Louisville, with stars including Ashley Judd, Sarah Hyland and Kendra Wilkinson getting in on the pre-Derby fun.
