Molly Huddle let the bronze medal slip through her fingers at the World Athletics Championship in Beijing on Monday.
The American distance runner celebrated her victory a moment too early and fellow American Emily Infeld crossed the finish line ahead of her, taking the medal, USA Today reports.
“Emily slipped on the inside as I eased up a little bit,” Huddle told NBC Sports. “She had this once-in-a-lifetime moment. I feel like it kind of slipped through my fingers.”
“The Olympics are typically a hard race, not a tactical one, so this probably won’t ever come around again.”
In a video above, Huddle, 30, is seen easing up and throwing up her hands in celebration, just as Infeld crosses the finish line inches in front her team mate.
