Seven months after tying the knot, the retired New York Yankee and the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model are welcoming their first child together. The power couple have been together for years, but they’ve managed to to keep their personal lives on the (very) down low. The pregnancy announcement came as a shock to fans — especially since Davis Jeter posed for her fifth Sports Illustrated Swimsuit appearance in an itty bitty bikini weeks after she found out she was pregnant.
As Davis Jeter, 26, and her husband, 42, prep for parenthood, we’ve gathered a few thing to know about the couple — and their private romance over the years.
A chance meeting through a mutual friend
The quiet couple reportedly met in 2012 — and Davis Jeter confirmed it was through a mutual friend while she was at dinner with her mom in New York. But, here’s the kicker, the model didn’t even know who Jeter was at the time!
“Derek and I met during the off-season, and I think that was a lucky break. It let us spend some time together away from New York. I didn’t have any preconceptions about who he was, and I didn’t need much more to go on than this: I had met the nicest guy, and I wanted to get to know him on my own terms. Not Google’s,” she wrote in a post for the The Players’ Tribune Monday.
She added: “We met at the right time. To me, what matters in a relationship is being at the same place in your lives. And right from the start, I could tell that the timing of Derek’s life and mine were aligned.”
A first glimpse
The pair was first spotted together in August 2012 at a New York club and dining in a Tampa, Florida, restaurant, according to Page Six. They hid their relationship for the next two years — hardly making any public appearances.
A rare display of affection
While promoting the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in August 2014, Jeter made a rare mention of his relationship with the SI swimsuit model — challenging Davis Jeter to take part herself.
A secret bachelor party?
In November 2014, the retired major-leaguer hit up Las Vegas for a private book signing. He also brought 12 guys with him. Cue the bachelor party and marriage rumors!
Mr. November wants to be a dad
At a New York City event in December 2014, Jeter admitted he couldn’t wait to be a father. “Kids nowadays are going to be the leaders of the future,” he said. “I look forward to being a dad.”
Derek announces their engagement
In what has become typical fashion for the couple, Jeter confirmed his engagement to girlfriend on November 3, 2015, in a blog post for The Player’s Tribune. “I had no idea what I was in for as a new dog owner. He was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancée, whose family had Mastiffs growing up,” the star wrote. “I’ve never owned a pet in my life.”
If you didn’t read it carefully, you might have missed the subtle reveal!
Red hot on the red carpet (but where’s the ring?!)
The couple stepped out together at the 2015 Met Gala, but we didn’t see any sign of a ring on that finger at the time.

They tie the knot!
The pair got married in July 2016 during an intimate ceremony at Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in St. Helena, California, according to a source. The bride wore a custom Vera Wang Bride gown for the ceremony, which featured a tulle halter neckline and plunging back. Davis Jeters’ nephew served as the ring bearer at the intimate affair, which included fewer than 100 guests.
A social media update
Following the couple’s nuptials, Davis Jeter took to Instagram to officially change her profile name to Hannah Jeter.
Finally, the ring makes an appearance!
Davis Jeter made a public appearance in August 2016 wearing her new wedding band in addition to her already blinding mega-carat engagement ring for the first time. The event? The 2016 Sports Illustrated Summer of Swim Fan Festival & Concert at Coney Island’s boardwalk.
It’s a Girl!
On Monday, Davis Jeter revealed in her essay for The Players’ Tribune that she is expecting their first child, a baby girl. “Pregnant with our first child, Derek and I are looking to the future,” she wrote. The piece includes a photo of Jeter holding a bouquet of pink balloons. Davis Jeter revealed Jeter has picked out a name for the baby — but it isn’t set in stone.
“He’ll say when he calls me during the day: ‘So, how are you and so-and-so doing?’ ” she said.
” ‘That’s not the name yet, sweetie,’ ” Davis Jeter reminded him. “Whatever her name is, I know she’ll run circles around him.”
“We want our kids’ lives to be as ‘normal’ as possible,” Davis Jeter continued. “They’re going to be born into such an extraordinary situation. They’re going to have to be some strong little people. We don’t want them to be defined by their dad’s name — for them, we want him to just be ‘Dad.”
