Wood sculpture, 'Maya Ancestor I' (Guatemala)

"This sculpture is inspired by the millenary vision of the ancient Maya culture. It is intended as a reminder that they are still with us," says Juan Ramon Flores. Hand-carved of palo blanco wood, the sculpture is centered by a Maya man carrying time on his back. He is surrounded by Maya numerals and the different nahual glyphs from the legendary Maya calendar.
