Batik cotton beaded fabric necklace, 'Mekar Colors' (Indonesia)

Crafted with colorful cotton fabric alongside small beads of albesia wood and plastic, this delightful fabric necklace is designed by Marie Pang of Java. She works with local artisans, who decorate the fabric beads and ribbon using the batik method, where the designs are painted or stamped with a wax resist before the fabric is dyed, resulting in lovely traditional motifs. This necklace is named Mekar, meaning "blooming" in Indonesian.
