Handmade Farahan Vegetable Dye Wool Rug (Afghanistan) - 9' x 11'6 (Red - 9' x 11'6). This rug is a unique piece of world art that will enhance your living space. Although tribal and rural, the abstract and cubist designs of Farahans look so modern they match the interior of today's homes. Farahan designs typically include a combination of curvilinear and geometric designs. This rug is made of 100% Wool pile, and pure vegetable dyes. The knot count per square inch fometric designs. Story Behind the Art: This particular rug was created by village weavers from northern part of Afghanistan, where weavers re-create the original Farahan design.These rugs are made by villagers and they are hand-knotted in their own homes. All washing, spinning and dyeing of the wool are done in their homes, they process the wool themselves prior to making the rugs. Due to the handmade nature of our rugs, the size may vary from as advertised by 3-4 inches. Regular vacuuming and annual professional cleaning will keep your rug looking new for years to come. Herat Oriental has been providing beautiful, authentic, handmade rugs to Worldstock for over 10 years. Worldstock has given us the opportunity to create jobs for over 2,000 local village weavers, which helps them to greatly support their families. The majority of the weavers are women, who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. As we grow with Worldstock, we are able to create more jobs for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
