I Tried This Instagram-Worthy Food — Here's My Honest Review

What Is Daily Harvest?

Convenient, healthy food to fuel your body and mind is the name of the game for Daily Harvest. The process begins with farm-fresh ingredients that are frozen at peak-season ripeness to preserve the most flavor and nutrients. Then, chefs and nutritionists at Daily Harvest take the mostly organically grown fruits and vegetables to create delicious plant-based recipes pre-portioned into individual cups. When you order online you have the freedom to choose from a variety of smoothies, harvest bowls, soups, lattes, oat bowls, and chia bowls to satisfy your taste buds. Whether you choose monthly or weekly delivery, each cup will range from $6.99 to $7.75. Your meals will come in a box that has kept the cups frozen throughout shipment (thank you, dry ice), so all you have to do is take them out and store them in your freezer. Choose a cup for your next meal and either add liquid or heat and enjoy!

Why I Love Daily Harvest

First things first: I can honestly say Daily Harvest is amazing. I'll admit I was skeptical; when I saw Daily Harvest was frozen, I expected the food to be a little bland, similar to other frozen meals I've had before. But after trying several options from Daily Harvest, I'm happy to say that its food is packed with an impressive amount of flavor, enjoyable down to the last bite. I love that it lists all the ingredients, so I know exactly what I'm putting into my body and can feel good about it.

The two things I love most are the minimal effort it takes to make healthy, nourishing meals (I never spent more than seven minutes making Daily Harvest!) and the convenience of having food at my fingertips when I'm on the go. Grocery shopping can be a hassle, especially with my busy schedule, and as someone who values having healthy, wholesome ingredients in my diet, I often end up wasting time and money because my fresh produce goes bad before I can eat it. Knowing I could wake up and blend a fresh smoothie to take with me on my way to work and have a warm, nutritious harvest bowl for dinner when I got back made my day so much smoother and less stressful.

I'm not vegan, but I like to incorporate several plant-based meals throughout the week. What worked for me was to prepare my own lunches for work on Sunday that involved meat because that's when I like to eat my biggest meal. Then, I'd have my Daily Harvest for breakfast, dinner, and/or a late night treat.

What Meals Are Worth Buying?

Although it's difficult to choose only a few of my favorites, these were the recipes that I couldn't get enough of. The very first one I tried (and therefore set the bar) was the Cauliflower Rice + Pesto harvest bowl, and it didn't disappoint. I'm obsessed with pesto so I didn't know what to expect with vegan ingredients (nutritional yeast in place of parmesan, for example), but OMG it was seriously SO good! All I did was pour the ingredients out of the cup into a saucepan, added a tablespoon of water, and heated it for about 5 minutes. I poured it into a bowl and garnished with fresh tomatoes and licked the bowl clean. Next time, I'll try adding some chicken or salmon for an extra protein boost.

Okay, let's talk smoothies! I'm a big fan of smoothies, but they can be hard to perfect. They're sometimes too liquidy or too icy, and other times you just don't have a good combination of ingredients. If you've tried the whole smoothie thing and want new, exciting flavors, you're in luck. Daily Harvest smoothies are by far my favorite — and with 22 mouthwatering flavors to choose from! My absolute favorite smoothie is the Mint + Cacao to have as a guilt-free breakfast or dessert. It literally tastes like a mint chip shake but without all the added sugar. I added a little natural peanut butter and cashew milk before blending and it turned out amazing.

I am a sucker for a large, cold glass of chocolate milk. Unfortunately, this can add up to over 200 calories with more than 20 grams of sugar. Luckily, the Chaga + Chocolate latte tastes just like an indulgent glass of chocolate milk (or even an iced mocha) but without the excessive number of calories. This mood-boosting latte features antioxidant-rich organic cacao and both chaga and reishi mushrooms. (Mushrooms? Unusual, I know — but trust me, it's SO tasty and nutritious!) I added cashew milk and blended it for a refreshing treat, but I'm also excited to try it warm when it starts to get chilly outside for a healthier hot chocolate alternative. One latte cup comes with three single-serve pods, so this one is definitely a smart buy!

All of the food I've tried so far has exceeded my expectations and has been excellent to have on hand. My verdict? I would absolutely invest in a Daily Harvest plan. I think a weekly plan of nine cups featuring a few smoothies and harvest bowls would be perfect for my lifestyle. I highly recommend Daily Harvest if you're looking for quick and healthy meals, and especially if you follow a plant-based diet.
