A soft gold wide band at the top of the raku birch bark vase indicates autumnFROM THE ARTIST:I am a potter living and working in Machiasport, Maine on the shores of Little Kennebec Bay. I love working with clay, especially the interactions between form, color, design and texture. The versatility of clay as a medium allows me to use many techniques to express my concepts and incorporate a wide range of skills to achieve the results I see in my mind. I draw inspiratio my concepts and incorporate a wide range of skills to achieve the results I see in my mind. I draw inspiration from many sources, but especially the designs in Arts and Crafts and Art Deco.My work focuses on the challenge of integrating shape, decorative design and color into a unique, cohesive expression. My pieces are carefully planned and executed, then finished with the spontaneity of raku firing, reflecting my sense of exploration and adventure. The crackle patterns and luster flashes of raku overlay their own designs on my designs, with rich blacks defining the designs. The concept is complete when the pots have a synthesis of form and decoration, each enhancing the other and meshing as a total statement. For me, that moment is one of magic and pure joy. read more
