Mattel is issuing a special edition version of the couple all decked out in their wedding finery
She may not be as curvy as the original, and he not as metrosexual, but the new Mattel Duke and Duchess of Cambridge versions of Barbie and Ken are regal – and just a little kitschy – enough to make any true collector drool.
The toy company is releasing the figurines in time to mark the real-life royal couple’s one-year wedding anniversary, which explains why they are outfitted in their wedding finery: he in dashing red military jacket with a blue sash, and she in a mini-version of her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown, replete with tiny tiara and sapphire engagement ring, reports InStyle.
Kate’s been a doll before, if you remember. Last year, the Franklin Mint issued a royal engagement edition.
While the Barbie-and-Ken dolls will go on sale for $155 from Amazon.com U.K. come April 7, in the U.S. the dolls are available for pre-sell now from Barbiecollector.com. They will also be available in April at mass online retailers, as well as BarbieCollector.com.
