The royal wedding may be over, but the TV movies keep on coming – and former Alias star Victor Garber is getting in on the action.

On the heels of the Lifetime movie about the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Garber signed on to play William’s father in the Hallmark Channel’s, William and Catherine: A Royal Romance. And it was a distinctive physical feature that got him the part.

“I’m playing Prince Charles, of course – we have the same ears,” Garber, 62, told PEOPLE at the New York City Ballet Spring gala on Wednesday. “Nobody knows how he is with his boys privately, and that’s what this movie is about. It’s a very sweet story.”

Rounding out the royal cast are Jean Smart, who will play Camilla Parker Bowles, and Jane Alexander, who’s been cast as Queen Elizabeth II in the movie, set to air Aug. 27. “We’re friends from way back, so it will be fun,” Garber says of the actresses.

As for the roles of William and Kate, a pair of newcomers – Dan Armboyer and Alice St. Clair – will play the lovebirds. “Unknown actors,” adds Garber, “but wonderful, apparently.”

And while Garber has never met the royal family himself (though he did see the Queen in his native Canada as a child), he’s quite familiar with a couple of members of Hollywood royalty – his good friends Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.

“They’re devoted and their priority is their children,” he says of the stars.

And how are their little ones? “They have their [parents’] genes,” he says. “They’re great, they’re growing, and they’re beautiful, stunning. They’re fabulous.”
