CLAIRE FOY AS QUEEN ELIZABETH II
OLIVIA COLMAN AS QUEEN ELIZABETH II
After two seasons on the throne, Foy officially passed the reigns (and the reign) to Olivia Colman. Netflix released this photo of the actress in costume ahead of season 3's debut — and the tea-sipping character looks spot-on!
MATT SMITH AS PRINCE PHILIP
Like his on-screen wife, Doctor Who alum Smith will only appear in The Crown's first and second seasons. He plays the Queen's at-times prickly husband, Prince Philip.
TOBIAS MENZIES AS PRINCE PHILIP
VANESSA KIRBY AS PRINCESS MARGARET
Kirby plays the glamorous, romantically risky Princess Margaret, who pursues a relationship with the divorced Captain Peter Townsend in season one before meeting her eventual husband, photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, in season two.
HELENA BONHAM CARTER AS PRINCESS MARGARET
Our first look at Carter as the British monarch's rebellious and sometimes controversial younger sister Princess Margaret has us wanting more!
VICTORIA HAMILTON AS THE QUEEN MOTHER
Hamilton plays the elder Queen Elizabeth — also known as the Queen Mother. This isn't her first time in a royal-inspired production: She also played Queen Victoria in the 2001 television movie Victoria & Albert.
JOHN LITHGOW AS WINSTON CHURCHILL
As Churchill is no longer Prime Minister in The Crown's current timeline, Lithgow won't appear in the second season. But his first season on the show was pretty memorable: He won an Emmy and was nominated for a Golden Globe for the role.
BEN MILES AS PETER TOWNSEND
Miles's character, military hero Captain Peter Townsend, embarks on an ill-fated love affair with Princess Margaret in the first season of the show.
MATTHEW GOODE AS ANTONY ARMSTRONG-JONES
New to the second season of The Crown is Downton Abbey actor Goode, who plays the love interest (and future husband) of Princess Margaret, Antony Armstrong-Jones.
BEN DANIELS AS ANTONY ARMSTRONG-JONES
Princess Margaret's husband also got a new actor in his shoes for the show's third season. Series creator Peter Morgan decided to recast the roles rather than attempt to make the current actors look older with makeup. He previously told Variety of the decision, "You can't ask someone to act middle-aged. Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it. The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds."
JEREMY NORTHAM AS ANTHONY EDEN
As the Prime Minister who followed Churchill, Northam's character has a prominent position at the end of the show's first season.
JARED HARRIS AS KING GEORGE VI
Harris's character, Queen Elizabeth's father, only appears in the first half of the first season before he dies, making way for his elder daughter's ascension.
ALEX JENNINGS AS KING EDWARD VIII
As the disgraced and exiled King Edward VIII (also known as the Duke of Windsor), Jennings pops up multiple times throughout the show's first season, particularly with the deaths of his brother and mother.
