PIPPA MIDDLETON & JAMES MATTHEWS
Though not technically royals, the new Mr. and Mrs. Matthews’s wedding received the attention of one — and they’re honeymooning like royals, too. The newlyweds were spotted at Los Angeles International Airport, where they caught another flight, jetting off to their honeymoon destination in French Polynesia.
PRINCE WILLIAM & PRINCESS KATE
After their wedding was watched by two billion people around the world, it’s understandable that Prince William and Princess Kate were hoping for a little peace, quiet and most importantly, privacy when it came time for their honeymoon. The couple escaped to a remote island in The Seychelles, an archipelago of islands off the coast of eastern Africa in the Indian Ocean, for a vacation full of sand, sun and soltitude.
CROWN PRINCE FREDERIK & CROWN PRINCESS MARY
She’s from one side of the world — Australia — he, from another — Denmark. So after the couple married in 2004, they chose somewhere entirely different for their honeymoon: Africa. Or rather, Frederik chose it — as the trip’s destination was a surprise for Mary. Looking for somewhere where they could find “remoteness” and “happiness,” he settled on a spot “between the Tropic of the Cancer and the Capricorn,” he told ABC in Australia. “It was my job to organize and surprise Mary as well. So she didn’t know where we were going and I wanted to go some place where we could be ourselves, literally, just the two of us,” he said. “We had to go to the African continent, in my opinion, to get that, or you have to go to Antarctica or Greenland. But we chose the hot spot and so we went down and had a wonderful photo safari.”
PRINCE CARL PHILIP & PRINCESS SOFIA
After saying their “I do’s” in June 2015, Carl Philip and Sofia traveled far, to Fiji, where they spent 12 days as a secluded, exclusive resort. And in a relaxed move, the couple flew commercial for the lengthy journey, with stops in Europe and Los Angeles — in business class (they are royalty, after all!)
PRINCESS MADELEINE & CHRISTOPHER O'NEILL
CROWN PRINCESS VICTORIA & PRINCE DANIEL
PRINCE CHARLES & PRINCESS DIANA
Charles and Diana‘s honeymoon had a less far-away destination, but one that was equally glamorous. Not to mention, their mode of transport was much more luxurious. They traveled through the Mediterranean on the Royal Yacht Britannia, which included stops in the Greek islands. After they returned, they joined the rest of the royal family at Balmoral, the Queen’s Scottish estate.
QUEEN ELIZABETH & PRINCE PHILIP
ZARA & MIKE TINDALL
Due to both of their busy athletic schedules — Zara as an equestrian, Mike as a rugby player — the Tindalls were forced to delay their honeymoon after their 2011 wedding. But their getaway was well worth the wait: They stayed at the picturesque Columbia Beach Resort in Cyprus, an island off the southern coast of Turkey.
