With 70 years of marriage behind them, it’s time to celebrate!

Queen Elizabeth and her first and only love Prince Philip were surrounded by family and close friends to toast them on an amazing milestone at Windsor Castle on Monday evening.

Joining the Queen, 91, and Philip, 96, were their children, Prince Charles, 69, who just returned from a tour of the Caribbean to see how the islands are recovering after the hurricanes, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

The siblings’ extended families were expected too – though Edward’s wife Sophie Wessex is in Bangladesh on official business. Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry were among the grandchildren in attendance. Kate was spotted in a black lace ensemble with a stunning pearl necklace and earrings, while William and Harry were dapper in black tuxes. The couple’s great-grandchildren were also likely to be at the castle. It’s not known if Meghan Markle is in the country and attending.

In addition to family, there will be close friends honoring the couple, including the monarch’s remaining bridesmaids, Lady Pamela Hicks and Princess Alexandra, and some members of the European royal families, like ex-King Constantine of Greece. In terms of size, it’s thought that the party, which will being with dinner served at around 7.30 p.m., will match the Christmas lunch that the Queen hosts at Buckingham Palace. There will also be post-dinner entertainment. Buckingham Palace had no comment on the party as it is a private occasion.

The then Princess Elizabeth and Philip wed 70 years ago today at Westminster Abbey – the famous church where William and Kate were also married in April 2011. And to mark the special occasion, a spectacular peal of bells rung out from the Abbey across central London for more than three hours on Monday afternoon.

It was the latest in a series of special tributes. Over the weekend, two sets of portraits were released. The first showed the royal couple in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. The Queen was all smiles next to her handsome groom — she even wore a gold, ruby and diamond brooch given to her by Philip in 1966.

The second was a platinum-themed shoot against a suitably-colored backdrop. The look and stance of tall Philip fondly looking down at his wife is similar to many other portraits taken of the couple over the years.
