British fashion photographer Josh Olins says Princess Kate was a “natural” in her British Vogue cover photoshoot, but the royal insists that the true professionals are her adorable kids.

In an excerpt from her upcoming interview with the magazine’s editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman, Kate reveals that 1-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince George, 2, have no problems posing for their mom – herself an amateur photographer.

“From taking photographs of George and Charlotte, I have been struck by the wonderful lack of self-consciousness that you see in photographs of children, without the self-awareness that adults generally feel,” Kate said.

Most of George and Charlotte’s portraits have been captured by Kate, including the little princess’ newly-released first birthday pictures. A palace source previously told PEOPLE that Kate is a “keen photographer,” and enjoys taking shots of her kids.

The royal mom has an artistic eye as she majored in art history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland – where she met husband Prince William.

Kate’s Vogue portraits are currently on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London, in the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibit. The rest of her interview and Norfolk photo shoot will be published in June’s centenary issue of British Vogue, on sale, Thursday, May 5.
