Princess Kate is a go-to for fashion inspiration (just look at how fast her outfits routinely sell out!), but for last night’s gala at the National Portrait Gallery in London, it seems Kate looked to another royal for fashion cues: Her stepmother-in-law, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

For the event, Kate wore a long-sleeved, floor-length green lace gown designed by Temperly London, one of her favorite designers.

And as royal watchers noticed, it was a look that Camilla had sported earlier this week. She rocked the green lace look for the launch of an exhibition by photographer Hugo Burnard (who snapped Kate and Prince William’s wedding photos!) in London on Monday.

Green lace is definitely trending, according to the royal set, but each woman interpreted the trend a little differently. While Kate’s more formal occasion called for the floor-length look, Camilla went with a shorter hem, which hit mid-calf, and a scoop neckline, compared to Kate’s high collar.

Both accessorized their respective looks with earrings featuring green stones (Kate’s, by one of her favorite jewelers, Kiki McDonough), and Camilla added a green-stoned necklace to her look.

Although the two usually don’t twin quite so obviously, they do frequently go for similar styles. Both love long coats and suits in bold colors and patterns (as does another royal — the Queen!). They also both keep knee-length plaid coats in their closets.

And both have worn velvet gowns for more formal occasions — Kate at the Sun Military Awards in December 2011, and Camilla earlier this year at a reception for the British Asian Trust.

Perhaps their stylists are taking tips from one another!
