Charlotte, 2 months, is set to be christened at Sandringham’s St. Mary Magdalene church (the same church where her late grandmother Princess Diana was christened) on Sunday, but amid all the preparations, the list of godparents was kept under wraps leading up to the big day.
Read on to learn more about the godparents, who were announced a few hours ahead of Charlotte’s official christening.
Tom van Straubenzee: Overlooked last time, he and fellow Prince William pal James Meade were key ushers at William and Kate’s 2011 wedding, conducting the fun speech that was a foil to Harry’s more straightforward toast. (The buddies also did a “double act” show at William’s 21st birthday party bash at Windsor Castle.) Van Straubenzee, who is married to Melissa Percy – her parents own the Northumberland estate that doubled as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films – attended Ludgrove prep school with Prince William.
James Meade: Known in the royal circle as “Badger,” he lives relatively close to Anmer Hall with his wife Laura. It was at the wedding of Meade’s brother Harry that William and Kate emerged in the autumn sunshine just before they confirmed they were set to marry. Meade was a classmate of William’s at Eton College.

Sophie Carter: An ex-girlfriend of van Straubenzee, Sophie Carter has joined Kate at tennis and chaperoned her at an annual carol concert soon after her engagement to William was announced in November 2010.
Laura Fellowes: The daughter of Princess Diana’s sister, Cynthia Jane Fellowes, Baroness Fellowes, she is close to William, along with fellow cousin Emily Hutt, and choosing her is another way to honor William’s late mum.
Adam Middleton: As the son of Michael Middleton’s brother, Richard, Adam is one of Kate’s cousins. He works for Mayfair firm Manchester Square Partners and Will and Kate attended his wedding to interior designer Rebecca Poynton in June 2014. Adam also joined Kate at a her birthday celebration when they went to see he Cirque du Soleil in the Royal Albert Hall back in 2013. And he was at the launch of cousin Pippa Middleton’s book in 2012.
