Why Prince George Will Wait to Hear His Destiny: 'We Are a Normal Family,' Says Prince William

"I hope George loves me the same way any son does to his father," William says in a new BBC interview

Prince George is third in line to the British throne, but the day he learns about his destiny can wait, his dad Prince William says in a new interview.

Asked if he recalls when he had an “inkling” that he wasn’t from an “ordinary” family, and when he might prepare George, William told the BBC, “As far as we are concerned within our family unit, we are a normal family.”

“I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same way any son does to his father,” the royal dad shared in an interview Wednesday to mark the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth. “We are very normal in that sense. There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world.

“But right now it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as a I can as father.”

In the same interview, he addressed criticism in the British press about his workload, saying he would be the “first person to put my hand up” when it is time to carry out more royal duties.

“I’m going to get plenty of criticism over my life time,” he told the BBC’s Nicholas Witchell. “It’s something I don’t completely ignore, but it’s not something I take completely to heart. I’m concentrating very much on my role as a father. I’m a new father and I take my duties and my responsibilities to my family very seriously. I want to bring my children up as good people, with the idea of service and duty to others as very important.

“But if I can’t give my time to my children as well, then I worry about my future.”

He says he serves the community with his air ambulance job and carries out some royal roles, while recognizing he is behind his father Prince Charles and the Queen in terms of taking the lead.

“When the Queen decides she’s going to hand down more responsibilities, I’ll be the first person to accept them.”

He added, “I take duty very seriously. I take my responsibilities very seriously. But it’s about finding your own way at the right time – and if you’re not careful duty can weigh you down at a very early age. I think you have got to develop into the duty role.”
