In the days leading up to Prince William and Princess Kate‘s fifth anniversary, we’re looking back at five of their sweetest-ever photos together. Today, the two share a hug while celebrating their graduation from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

Were they (and we!) ever so young?

For the first day of Will and Kate’s anniversary week, we’re throwing it back – way back. This snap, shared by Clarence House and the Middleton family after the couple announced their engagement in 2010, was actually taken after their 2005 college graduation.

After meeting in their first year dorm, St. Salvator’s Hall, Will and Kate went on to live together throughout the rest of their years at the university, first with friends, and finally, on their own during their last year.

The two were clearly head-over-heels when this photo was snapped, but there were challenges to come. With Kate headed to London for a job at the retailer Jigsaw and William set to enroll at Sandhurst, their relationship was tested over the next few years.

But as we all know, their separation was short-lived. Later that year, they were back together, and just five years after the now-famous graduation photo was snapped, Will and Kate were getting ready to walk down the aisle.
