While Princess Charlotte is busy following in mom Princess Kate‘s fashionable footsteps (recycling clothes like a pro!), 3-year-old Prince George is taking style cues from Uncle Harry.

Wearing maroon shorts, navy blue knee-high socks and his first pair of “grown up” loafers at a playdate in Victoria, Canada, on Thursday, it was clear that Kate is still favoring throwback fashions, echoing a look that Prince Harry wore 27 years ago when he was just 4 years old.

“It very much feels that they are following a family tradition, putting George in similar clothes to what Prince Harry and Prince William wore when they were younger,” says Lucy Enfield, co-founder of Wild & Gorgeous – whose sweater George wore at the Government House garden party. “But I think Kate does it with a lot of charm and in a very sweet way.”

And coincidently, the $84 merino wool knit from the British brand, which has been in business for 10 years but only just launched their first boys’ collection (yes, George is one of their first-ever customers!) is even called the Harry – after Enfield’s husband. “It was a coincidence, honestly,” says Enfield’s business partner, Sophie Worthington.

“Of course its really thrilling to see your jumper on Prince George. It’s so exciting,” says Worthington, who revealed that they sent a package of several jumpers to the palace about three weeks before the tour started. “We knew they had bought some pieces from us, so we were hoping he might wear one of them in Canada – we were keeping an eye out, but to suddenly see it on him like that was really great.”

Worn over a checked boys’ shirt by the Spanish brand Neck & Neck’s fall 2016 collection (retailing for $49.99) with maroon shorts and his go-to navy knee-high socks from Amaia, George even slipped on his first pair of leather loafers, just like little Prince Harry’s back in 1989.

The future king wore Barnie Moccasin by British shoe brand Papouelli London. Co-owner Nicole Robinson tells PEOPLE, “We were delighted to see Prince George in our shoes, and are all very proud.”

The $71 soft loafer design, one of the brand’s bestsellers, comes in a variety of colors and was discovered during one of nanny Maria Turrion Borrallo’s visits to their Belgravia store. Maybe the best thing about the comfortable, classic shoes? They are unisex – allowing little sister Charlotte to have her own moccasin moment one day!
